    NATIONAL CURRICULUM

We work according to the revised National Curriculum as set out by the Gauteng Department of Education. (Age appropriate).

    Gr 000 / Toddlers

We concentrate on teaching the children specific skills that form the groundwork for fine motor skills development.  This is essential for writing in later years. Herewith some examples :

    • colouring with wax crayons, pencils and oil pastels
    • writing and drawing with HB pencils,  pens and koki’s
    • correct use of a scissors
    • finger painting (using thick and thin brushes) and using water paint
    • using various types of glue (pritt / wood glue)
    • collage activities. Pasting various items on a different types of surfaces
    • Playdough. The rolling, pinching and pulling strengthens the fine muscles in their hands

As well as playing and learning, we also emphasise on social skills such as sharing, caring, considerateness, manners, hygiene and many more essential coping skills in preparation for the ‘big world”.

    Gr 00 / Gr R

Literacy:  listening, speaking, reading and viewing, writing, thinking and reasoning.
Numeracy:  numbers, operations and relationships, patterns, functions and algebra, space, shape and measurement
Life Orientation:  health promotion, social development, personal development, physical development and movement.
They also do a lot of learning through play. Learning is an extension of play.

From January 2009 we will be using the Day By Day Early Childhood Development School Readiness programme (Complimentary supplement to the Revised National Curriculum Statement). Website : www.daybydayecd.co.za
